Use it on your documents

Dolibarr sees Empreinte as one PDF template per document type, named Empreinte. Behind that name, Empreinte prints the drawing you chose for the type. Two choices are therefore involved:

1. Which drawing Empreinte uses for a document type (your invoice template, your quotation template, and so on).
2. Whether Dolibarr uses Empreinte for a given document, or by default.

1. Choose the drawing for each document type

Only one drawing is used per document type. Choose it in either place (administrators only):

• From the template list: in PDF templates, click Choose on the line of the template. The Used by default column shows the current choice.
• From the module setup: in Setup → Modules/Applications, open the settings of Empreinte. One drop-down per document type lists your templates. Click Save.

If you never chose one, Empreinte uses your most recently modified template of that type, and if there is none, the Minimal layout supplied with the module.

2. Print a document with Empreinte

1. Open the document, for example an invoice.
2. In the Linked files area at the bottom of the card, pick Empreinte in the Doc template drop-down.
3. Click Generate. The PDF appears in the list of files and can be sent by email as usual.

Make Empreinte the default template

So that every new PDF uses Empreinte without picking it each time, set it as the default in the setup of the module concerned:

Open Setup → Modules/Applications, then the settings of the module. In that section, check that Status is on for Empreinte, then click the icon in the Default column on its line.

Several templates for the same document type

You can keep several drawings for one type, for example a template per brand or a draft of next year’s layout. Only the chosen one prints. To switch, use Choose in the list, then generate the PDF again on the documents you need.

PDF files already generated never change when you edit or switch templates. Click Generate again on a document to produce it with the current drawing.

Electronic invoices (Factur-X)

Empreinte triggers the same steps as Dolibarr’s built-in templates when it creates a PDF. Modules that add a Factur-X XML to the invoice PDF (for example DolifacturX) therefore work with Empreinte templates too, and can produce the PDF/A-3 file they need. This needs Empreinte 24.2.1 or later.
